Letters Containing CD and Sugar Packet Labeled As Anthrax Advisory

On October 28, 2008 the MIOC received the following information from the FBI Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Directorate and is for informational purposes only. Please note that although this information is for official use only (FOUO), it is not considered law enforcement sensitive (LES) and may be distributed as appropriate to emergency first responders, including fire departments and hazmat teams:

• On 10/27/2008 and 10/28/2008, letters began arriving at media outlets across the United States. It is unknown how many letters have been mailed at this time.

• All letters are in a padded manila envelope, postmarked from Sacramento, CA and contain a promotional CD and sugar packet pictured below.

• There is no indication that these letters are associated with any of the recent mailings to financial institutions.

• Field screening on these letters has been negative for hazardous substances.

Anyone that receives or finds one of these packages should contact their local WMD coordinator.
